ADM & SMSU Environmental Learning Area

The groomed trails through prairie, woodlands, ponds, marsh and wildlife await you on SMSU’s campus. Explore 40-acres of nature while still staying close to civilization. At the ADM & SMSU Environmental Learning Area, you’ll experience wildlife of Southwest Minnesota and maybe learn something new along the way.

Bird Watching

The prairie is filled with diverse species of birds and offers an opportunity to view prairie and woodland birds. While bird watching at one of Marshall’s notable birding locations, you may see species like the gray partridge, northern harrier, sparrows, short-eared owls or rough-legged hawks circling the areas.

Camden Regional Bike Trail

The Camden Regional Trail is a paved, multi-purpose recreational trail extending from Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) through the City of Marshall, connecting area residents to Camden State Park. About 4 miles of paved trail connect adjacent campuses of Marshall High School and SMSU to a network of bike lanes within the City of Marshall. At the West end of Marshall, the paved trail covers 10 miles of gently rolling hills between Wayside Park (along MN HWY 23) to Camden State Park.

Marshall Art Experience

Take the time to go and experience the art that Marshall has to offer. From sculptures to murals and galleries, we have a large variety of art for you to embrace. The Marshall Art Experience includes public art that is unique to the community and highlights the economic vitality and quality of life in Marshall.

Marshall-Lyon County Library

The Marshall-Lyon County Library is a community gathering place where the staff encourages reading, learning and exploring new ideas. The library is an indispensable resource to help its visitors succeed in a constantly changing world, regardless of their paths or goals. The library offers entertainment options for all ages, but be sure to check out the children’s library, which is filled with creative vibes and imagination.

Marshall Golf Club

The Marshall Golf Club invites you to their hidden gem of over 6,600 yards of green. The course is made for all levels of golfers wanting to play 9 or 18-hole rounds. Take the day for yourself and let the staff at the golf club meet your needs and exceed your expectations. There are always things happening, including golf tournaments, couples nights, social events and fun golf leagues.

SMSU Planetarium

The SMSU Planetarium is a theatre of the universe. Surround yourself with an accurate image of the sparkling night sky. SMSU Planetarium’s Shows include a wide mix of live and multimedia programs. Experience a high quality, educational activity right on campus. Book a group planetarium star show and/or a laser light show by contacting the planetarium director, Ken Murphy.

Event Season

Marshall is home to Red Baron Arena & Expo, our favorite event venue in Southwest Minnesota. As hockey season comes to an end, the ice comes off and the expo floor becomes the home to multiple events throughout the spring and summer. Check out the Marshall Radio Home Show or the Youth Sports & Activity Expo, where you can visit and learn about home improvements or new services to utilize. There is always something new coming to Red Baron Arena, so be sure to check out the events calendar to see what you can look forward to!
