SUMMARY:Beck's Classic Hosted by MSGA
DESCRIPTION:Participating in the Beck’s Soybean Classic is just one of the many ways you can support our advocacy efforts in St. Paul and Washington\, D.C.\nA day on the course golfing with the farmers at the Marshall Golf Course! MSGA continues to take a stand to protect crop inputs and ensure they remain in our growers’ toolbox. Growers need all the products at their disposal to stay ahead of the game and safeguard against yield-robbing pests and diseases. Thanks to the support of members and industry partners\, MSGA works with lawmakers and regulators to protect crop inputs and prevent unnecessary restrictions and fees on the use of agriculture chemicals.\nIn recent years\, we’ve been proud to join the farm community and other ag groups in preventing the passage of legislation that would have allowed cities to enact their own pesticide regulations\, along with stopping additional seed treatment regulations.\nSee you on the golf course for a good cause and great fun!

SUMMARY:Rodgers and Hammerstein State Fair
DESCRIPTION:State Fair is a heartwarming American musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II\, first premiering as a film in 1945 and later adapted for stage and television. Set against the backdrop of the annual Iowa State Fair\, it follows the Frake family as they leave their farm for a few days of excitement\, competition\, and unexpected romance. \nEach family member experiences their own adventure: parents Abel and Melissa hope to win ribbons for their prize pig and pickles\, while their children\, Margy and Wayne\, fall in love during the festivities. Blending small-town charm with timeless themes of love\, hope\, and new beginnings\, the musical is known for its beloved songs such as “It Might as Well Be Spring” and “It’s a Grand Night for Singing.” \nState Fair captures the nostalgic spirit of mid-century Americana—celebrating family\, tradition\, and the thrill of chasing dreams under the bright lights of the fairgrounds.

SUMMARY:The Road to 1776
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Anita Gaul\, historian\, for a presentation about the years and events that led to American independence. \nAt the conclusion of the Seven Years’ War in 1763\, Great Britain and the American colonies were on the best of terms. The war had strengthened their common identity and solidified the bonds of empire. \nYet at the same time\, the war also planted the seeds of mutual misunderstanding and suspicion. Just thirteen years later\, in 1776\, the American colonists declared their independence from Great Britain\, signaling their intent to permanently break the political bonds between them. \nWhat caused the relationship between Great Britain and its American colonies to collapse so rapidly? In this presentation\, Dr. Gaul explains the steps that led from the war that fused the bonds of empire to the war that broke them forever.

SUMMARY:Learn to Play (Cozy) D&D
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to play the popular tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons! These sessions will walk you through creating characters and playing a short storyline. Please note that these sessions are for adults. Teens and preteens\, you can learn to play at our weekly Teen Tabletop Gaming sessions on Tuesdays at 3:30 PM. \nWe’ll be playing in bite-sized chunks: one hour each Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:30 for four weeks\, starting June 10th. Registration is required\, and we ask that you attend all four sessions so we can have a consistent group. Space is limited. \nThese four meetings will focus on playing the game in a more cozy fantasy style: think Legends & Lattes or Stardew Valley. If you’re more interested in battling and high fantasy\, like Lord of the Rings or Legend of Zelda\, consider signing up for the classes starting in June instead. We’ll still be playing D&D\, but we’ll be focusing more on interactions\, crafting\, and nonviolent quests. \nRegister for the series on Wednesday June 10\, June 17\, June 24\, and July 1st here: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/VKwK6jU5RA\nOR\nRegister for the (cozy) series on Wednesday July 8\, July 15\, July 22\, and July 29 here: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/ubdzR321Tx \nDungeons & Dragons is the most well-known tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG). It is a swords and sorcery storytelling and strategy game that involves rolling dice to determine the outcomes of your actions. You roll dice to overcome obstacles or attack enemies. Some TTRPGs lean more heavily into improvisation and storytelling\, and others lean more into rules and mechanics. D&D has options for folks who are excited about storytelling or who would prefer rolling dice to over improv and talking. \nQuestions? Email emilirose.rasmusson@marshalllyonlibrary.org or call the library at 507-537-7003 and ask for Emilirose.
